October 15 to December 3, 2020
via Zoom

This eight week program will be delivered by trainers from the Ottawa Pastoral Care Training Program, with support from Rabbi Mikelberg of Temple Israel, Rabbi Bolton of Or Haneshamah and Rabbi Kenter of Kehillat Beth Israel, who will provide the Jewish content  The training will include modules on Active Listening, Grief, Supporting the Dying, the Transitioning Years and Care for the Caregiver.

A Jewish Pastoral Care team’s role is rooted in Jewish values such as ‘bikkur cholim’ (visiting the sick) and ‘gemilut hasadim” (deeds of loving-kindness) and caring for the weak and needy. Since 2018, there have been Jewish Spiritual Care volunteers visiting Jewish patients at the Ottawa Hospital, including the Ottawa Heart Institute, and the Queensway Carleton Hospital. These “bikur cholim” hospital visits have been well received and it is now time to grow the present teams.

This course is aimed at those members of the Ottawa Jewish Community who would like to join other Jewish Spiritual Care volunteers at one of the hospitals. It is also open to anyone in the Community who has an interest in Jewish Pastoral Care.

The charge for the training program is $50.
